Space Marine?

So there's this space fella who gets deployed on planets to fight aliens, water and other such a weird mystical things. They call him a 'Master Chief' despite the fact that to my knowledge (which I made is very little) he seems to act more like a marine and therefore should be called by military rank and not a navel one. This would imply that instead of being a master chief he would be a sergeant major and you can't tell me ''but they're in space therefore the Insignia is different''.

I don't care about such things we have no space Army at the moment it's technically illegal to put weapons in space (that has not stopped the United States or the former Soviet Union.) Until we actually have a space Army I'm going to imply that we use proper military procedure.

No I don't care that I live in Canada and therefore fall under an entirely different military order as opposed to that of the United States.
